How I Stop Panic Attacks
As I mentioned in other posts, I am not a big fan of being medicated and sedated to stop panic attacks. While it did help somewhat, I hated feeling like a zombie all the time. Going for months of expensive therapy with a psychologist was definitely out too. No way could I possibly afford that! So, that basically left me hanging for a solution to my problem, but I kept looking.
I Finally Get a Break
I frequented an online forum for people dealing with panic and anxiety attacks. It was a place to share stories, information and sometimes just outright complain to each other. While in complain mode myself one day, I wrote about my frustration over being unable to find a way to overcome panic attacks. I just wanted them to stop and go away.
Most of the responses I received were from people either commiserating or encouraging me not to give up, but one post offering encouragement also offered a bit of hope. She mentioned a site called Panic Away offering a program that had helped her immensely. She also told me a little about how the program worked and gave me a link to their web site. I followed the link and checked it out.
Quiet honestly, I was pretty skeptical after reading through the site, but I was pretty much desperate so I decided to give it a shot. I figured since they were offering a money back guarantee I really didn't have anything to lose. I wish a couple of the doctors that I saw offered a money back guarantee.lol.
I Decided to Go For It
It was kind of eerie, but also reassuring the way it felt like the writer knew exactly what I was going through. It was like he was inside my head. However, I was still having a hard time believing what I was reading. I thought for sure I would be taking advantage of the money back guarantee. It all just seemed so simple that there was no way it could possibly stop panic attacks.
What do I mean by simple?
The Panic Away program is based on the premise that after you have one panic attack it develops into a loop of anxiety over having more of them. This loop of anxiety then triggers more attacks. The only way to break the loop is to stop fearing them, and that is where “The One Move Technique “comes in.
The "One Move Technique" Stops the Panic Attack Cycle
Even though I was sure it wasn't going to work, I started using the Panic Away method and One Move technique every day. Funny thing is that even though I was so skeptical, I immediately started to notice a change in the way I was feeling. It was like each day I felt a little more of the anxiety melting away, a little more of the weight gone from my shoulders. After several weeks without panic attacks, the anxiety all but disappeared. I was finally feeling like my old self again.
I slowly started doing all the stuff that I avoided in the past. Things like going to the mall, going out fishing on my boat or taking a walk by myself in the woods. I even took my daughter to a local amusement park one day, and went on the rides with her. (Check out the picture below, isn't she a cutie??)

Getting My Life Back
I was never able to do those things before because of the anxiety over having an attack in public and making a complete fool of myself. Or, because of the fear of something happening to me while I was in the woods or boat alone and no one would be able to help me. They were making me stop living my life.
And the amusement park? No way could I have done that. The fear over the possibility the rides might cause me to have a panic attack would have shut that down REAL quick.
I have followed the program for about 6 years now and it has worked for me.
The Downside
Now, I said some good things about the Panic Away program, but I don't want to give the wrong idea here. The program/method is not perfect, or the answer to all the world's problems.
First, I am not totally free and clear of panic attacks. I still have them once in a great while. Maybe once a year I might feel one starting, but it never turns into a full blown attack. I can put an end to it in usually under a minute now that I know what I am looking for and how to deal with it.
While it may not sound perfect, it is a huge improvement. Before learning about the program I could experience 2 or 3 attacks in a single day! They were also very intense and could last for hours. Several miserable hours.
The program taught me several important things though. The most important was how to break the cycle of panic attacks. This really made a difference in the number of attacks I was having. It also taught me how to get in front of the attack when I do feel one coming on so I can stop it quickly -- I am talking less than a minute.
Will It Work For You?
Speaking to others online and in person, I gotten some mixed reviews on the program. Some people say it is amazing and they have never had another attack, some people said it has not helped them a bit. The majority are somewhere in the middle, like me, with varying levels of success. I guess it is like anything else in the world. Some things work for some people and don't work at all for others.
I can't tell you if it will work for you or not. Might, might not. Only thing I can tell you is that it did help me stop panic attacks. All I can do is pass on the info like it was passed on to me and hopefully it might help a few people.
If you are interested, you can read more about the program at the Panic Away web site. Good luck and I hope it helps you stop your panic attacks.
